First Lady JoAnn James

 JoAnn James is a native of Shelbyville, Kentucky. She attended the Shelby County Public School System and a graduate of Kentucky State University, where she received a Bachelors of Arts in Social Science, and a Masters of Social Science. JoAnn has also acquired countless amount of training in the field of Social Work at Indiana University, where she has obtained Rank 1 in Education. Currently, JoAnn is employed with the Jefferson County Public School System within the Department of Pupil Personnel.

She is a member of Elim Baptist Church, where she serves as the First Lady to her husband Reverend Vincent E. James Sr., whom presides as Pastor. JoAnn is a proud mother of three adult children Joey, Vincent Jr., and a beautiful daughter Carol.

Anyone who has come in contact with her free and loving spirit knows she loves the Lord and kingdom building work. JoAnn is a committed servant of Christ, and shows her passion through various ministry efforts. She serves as a lead facilitator for a Sunday Life School class and works closely with the Elim Women’s Ministry. JoAnn understands that kingdom building extends beyond the four walls she calls home at Elim. In an effort to improve the quality of life for families and communities she resides on various committees and boards. Her passion and love for Christ is shared with a multitude of people as she is called to many workshops, seminars, local and national conferences participating as a key note speaker. One conference that is very special to her is the Sister to Sister Conference that is held yearly. This conference provides spiritual growth to women of various backgrounds from the Central District Baptist Association throughout the Commonwealth. JoAnn serves as one of the coordinators, and has seen over one thousand women experience enrichment and life

changing moments through this conference.

JoAnn believes in the scripture Romans 8:28 “And we know in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to this purpose.”  She holds this scripture dear to heart, and uses it daily to keep her grounded as she encounters life’s challenges and blessings.
